Job Description

Bloomin’ Brands is seeking an Employment Law Specialist to join our corporate Legal team. This role will investigate and respond to employee complaints, and handle other complex matters exercising discretion, and using independent judgment to determine outcomes and appropriate corrective action. The Employment Law Specialist will also provide consultation, guidance and coaching to field management to address employee behavior and performance concerns. Provide guidance and assist with the development and delivery of appropriate feedback or remedial action. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of employment laws and Company policies. Partner with legal team to prepare strategy and responses to EEOC, DOL, OSHA charges and requests as well as threatened litigation; participate as needed with litigation. Maintain required documentation within case management system, including intake, investigative notes, supporting documents, and reports.


* Investigates employee complaints, interview witness, review documents, make findings, and recommend appropriate resolution

* Consults, advises, coaches and guides managers and employees in effectively dealing with employee relations issues, interpretation and application of policies and procedures, legal compliance, and disciplinary and termination issues

* Collaborates closely with Legal, HR and Operations team to ensure disciplinary processes and investigations are handled consistently

* Appropriately escalates and reports ongoing issues to Legal, HR and Operations leadership and recommends corrective action for repeated issues

* Assist with ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment law.



* Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business or other related field preferred


* At least 3 or more years of experience conducting and documenting workplace investigations highly preferred

* Ability to identify and define problems as well as develop and recommend fact-based solutions

* Ability to prepare comprehensive investigative reports and present ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, as well as review the work of field leadership, and provide appropriate conclusions and feedback

* Ability to research and analyze information to arrive at valid conclusions, action plans, and recommendations when appropriate

* Solid working knowledge of HR policies and procedures, state and federal employment laws and regulations

* Ability to maintain confidentiality as required; demonstrates sound business and professional ethics

* Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, as well as strong attention to detail and ability to work in a team environment

* Subject matter expert in one or more specialized regulatory area (e.g. EEO, ADA, FLSA) preferred

* Large company experience preferred

* Retail/Restaurant Industry experience preferred

* Demonstrated consulting and diagnostic skills, able to engage active listening skills and provide sound and relevant diagnosis and advice

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, required
