The Employee Relations "ER" Manager (FPS, CIG, BFG) is a key thought partner role based in our Tampa Restaurant Support Center and will support our team members and operations leadership throughout the US for Flemings, Carrabba’s and Bonefish concepts; provides advice and counsels concept leaders and managers on cases of people-related issues such as: performance management, conduct/behavior, disciplinary issues, and other investigations as assigned by our Employment Law Team.


The ER Manager will facilitate prompt and effective resolution of workplace conflict to address issues for employees, managers, and leaders in a manner consistent with BBI policies, practices, and legal considerations. He/she will partner effectively with the HR Business Partners and the Employment Law Team to ensure compliance and consistency in the execution of ER cases and participate in the identification of employee relations trends. The ER Manager will promptly escalate cases that require the specialized investigation of the Employment Law Team. This role reports to the Sr. Director, Human Resources for FPS, CIG and BFG.


This individual must have specific knowledge and experience related to California Employment Laws as FPS has a significant footprint in California.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


* Provides consultation and coaches managers and people leaders on employee relations issues spanning all levels within the organization. Uses independent judgment to recognize and promptly escalate issues that require investigation by the Employment Law Team or Sr. Director, HR.


* During the intake process, actively listens, captures and summarizes in case management database relevant details, and evaluates concerns/questions to advise appropriately using independent judgment and escalates to stakeholders as needed. Ensures all essential information has been received.


* Maintains strict confidentiality throughout conversations and investigations; exercises sound judgment in handling or working with confidential data and situations.


* Advises on ER issues using independent judgment and strategic thinking while upholding company values and culture, reducing company liability and ultimately improving the team member experience.


* Recommends corrective actions, documentation, performance coaching, or other actions for team members to HR and Operations Management.


* Demonstrates ownership of ER decisions and actions; follows issues through to completion and professionally challenges pushback when necessary.


* Participates in the process to compile and analyze documentation/information received about team member disputes and/or employment policy inquiries.



* Interacts and professionally communicates with current and former team members, all levels of management, Operations, Employment Law Team, external vendors/agencies, and other third parties in the daily activities associated with the administration of ER matters. This includes preparing and sending appropriate correspondence and/or information as required or requested.



* Develops and maintains systems, written procedures, templates, and checklists for handling of ER related matters. When warranted, takes initiative to evaluate and recommend process improvements, changes, new procedures etc.


* Ensures accurate and timely completion of all intake concerns/questions and database entries.



* Builds presentations and/or partners with Sr. Director, HR and HRBPs on special projects, ER training and developing people solutions.


REQUIREMENTS


Education:


* Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of Employee Relations experience OR Law degree and 3+ years of Employee Relations experience required

* HR Certification (such as SHRM), strongly preferred


Experience/Skills:


* Strong experience in employment law and employee relations procedures and processes

* Strong experience in California Employment Law

* Strong experience handling an assortment of employee relations situations

* Demonstrated operational HR experience in a restaurant or retail environment, preferred

* Ability to communicate effectively with hourly, salaried and management

* Ability to support restaurant operational questions during evenings and weekends

* Experience in managing multiple cases and projects at the same time
