Summary:


The Data Governance Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, administration, and management of the Company’s enterprise Data Governance Program (DGP). The role’s primary focus will be establishing and enforcing a robust governance framework for data policies, standards, and practices at both a technical and functional level, as well as ensuring alignment with business objectives and driving the desired level of data consistency, accuracy and quality across the

organization.  


The Data Governance Manager will be responsible for developing and enforcing data practices in the context of regulatory, legal and data privacy requirements, and risk minimization. You will serve as a single point of contact for data quality and governance, and will work closely with Legal, Compliance, Data Privacy, IT, and Information Security.


Essential Functions:


  • Develops and implements an enterprise wide DGP, with a focus on improving data quality and creating/upgrading existing organizational policies and standards, governance metrics, processes, reporting and infrastructure.
  • Administers and manages all aspects of enterprise DGP; develop an implementation plan and report to leadership on progress and status.
  • Engages with business users, data owners and stakeholders to enable them to manage data efficiently and consistently, minimize risk, and ensure compliance with the DGP, internal policies and retention schedules, as well as external laws and regulations.
  • Serves as a liaison between legal, business, information security and information technology teams with a focus on the security and privacy of sensitive and confidential data.
  • Defines roles and responsibilities within the DGP and the Company related to data governance and ensure accountability for stewardship of the Company's principal information assets.
  • Creates and manages a central process to capture, prioritize and manage data remediation efforts across the organization. 
  • Defines data management metrics, reporting protocols, and action plans.
  • Ensures and supports compliance with applicable data laws, state and industry standards, and emerging best practices.
  • Mitigates risks by monitoring and reporting on enterprise performance regarding data-related goals and standards.
  • Supports business and team members in data quality control and adherence to policies and procedures through training and mentorship.
  • Collaborates with IT teams in the establishment of an enterprise data inventory, implementation of data governance tools, technologies, and infrastructure, and participate in data migration activities, as required to support data governance initiatives.
  • Assists with special projects related to the Legal/Compliance function, as assigned.


Requirements:


Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Information Management, Computer Science, Data Analytics or a related field is required.      
  • DGSP, DGCP, IGP, NARA, CRM or equivalent certification preferred.


Experience:

Required Skills:

  • Extensive experience in Data Governance or Records Management
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and work with people at all levels of the company 
  • Self-starter with exceptional project management and change management skills
  • Ability to work within a cross-functional team environment to collaborate with and influence business and technical stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in developing and implementing data governance policies, procedures, frameworks, and industry best practices in a large organization
  • Familiarity with data privacy laws and security regulations (e.g., GDPR, PIPL, CPRA) and their implications on data governance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including DLP rules and role-based access


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience leading a Data Governance Program
  • Familiarity with a hybrid cloud environment
  • Familiarity with data governance tools, metadata management tools, data cataloging solutions, and data classification
