Job Description

This role serves as a key legal advisor and strategic partner to Human Resources and Operations, offering expert guidance on a wide range of employment-related matters such as hiring, performance, compliance, and workplace investigations. It manages litigation and regulatory matters, drafts key employment documents, supports crisis response, and ensures policies align with evolving employment laws.


Responsibilities

  • Partner directly with the Human Resources and Operations teams to provide employment-related legal advice
  • Provide legal oversight and strategic guidance for internal investigations involving allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other employee relations concerns
  • Advise on workplace issues including recruiting, hiring, performance management, discipline, terminations, leaves of absence, disability accommodations, wage and hour compliance, labor relations, and EEO regulations
  • Manage litigation, government agency investigations, and administrative charges
  • Prepare documents and data for discovery needs
  • Oversee or conduct investigations related to alleged violations of company policies, laws, and regulations
  • Investigate and defend state and federal charges of discrimination, wage/hour audits and other regulatory complaints, including preparation of position statements and other responsive documents
  • Drafting of employment, settlement and separation agreements
  • Assist in development and presentation of education and training materials
  • Assist and provide guidance in crisis management situations
  • Advise and update the business about changes in Federal, state and local laws and regulations, including updating policies and handbooks, as necessary

Required Skills

  • Solid understanding of employment law frameworks (e.g., Title VII, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, ADEA) and experience applying them in a practical business setting
  • Strong organizational, analytical, practical problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, as well as the ability to identify risk
  • Common sense and ability to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations
  • High level of interpersonal skills, ability to work with and influence peers and senior management
  • Ability to work in a proactive and service-oriented manner
  • Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects at once, efficiently manage a large caseload
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Willingness to be available during restaurant operating hours to give immediate guidance as needed

 

Experience

  • 2-5 years of employment law legal experience
  • Florida Bar member in good standing, required
  • Prior involvement in internal investigations and wage and hour compliance is preferred
